Heading to a resort or tropical destination? Know what is allowed in carry-on and checked baggage before packing your sunscreen and snorkeling gear.
Heading towards sunny skies and sandy toes? First, make sure your beach essentials follow security screening rules. From after-sun lotion to beach toys, here’s what you need to know.
Packing tips for beach vacations
Pack liquids properly: All liquids, aerosols, and gels – such as sunscreen, bug spray, and aloe – must be in containers of 100 mL or less and fit in a single 1-liter clear, resealable bag. Anything larger must be checked.
Powders and granular materials – like baby powder– are permitted up to 350 ml in carry-on. Certain powders and granular materials may require additional screening, and in some cases, the items may not be permitted. We recommend that permitted powders and granular materials that are not required during your flight be placed in checked baggage.
Check beach umbrellas and surfboards with your luggage. Some larger items may need to be checked as oversized baggage depending on airline size limits.
Snorkeling gear is allowed in your carry-on, but scuba tanks go in checked baggage and will require airline approval.
